COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - WIS applauds the Columbia City Council on the decision to shift its regular meetings from Wednesday mornings to Tuesday evenings.
Effective October 19th, the city council meetings will take place every first and third Tuesday evenings of the month at 6pm, allowing for better public attendance by those of us who work during normal business hours.
Under the leadership of Steve Benjamin, our new mayor, the council is providing an opportunity for more community input and accessibility to the decision making process that impacts how our government is run. The council has been under fire in past years for financial malfeasance and governance issues, so this is a refreshing change.
I urge all interested citizens of Columbia to take an avid interest and attend an upcoming meeting. Get to see your elected councilmen and women in action, hold them accountable, and exercise your civic duty.
You have no one to blame but yourself if you don't take advantage of these more conveniently scheduled public meetings to help shape the future of our city.
That's my perspective. I'd like to hear from you.
