SC deputy's cruiser strikes, kills man helping accident victims

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A 44-year-old Timmonsville man was killed early Friday morning after he was struck by a deputy's cruiser while rendering aid to the victims of an accident.

Johnny Clint Floyd, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident along SC-151 around 5 a.m., according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.

Hardee said Floyd stopped to help the victims of an automobile accident at 4 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a deputy from the Darlington County Sheriff's Office. The deputy, according to officials, was not hurt in the crash.

The Darlington County Sheriff's Office is continuing to ask drivers to avoid SC-151 near Flynn's Crossroads as the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the accident.

Authorities advise using SC-34 or Billy Farrow Road as an alternate route.
