Police: Fatal shooting during domestic dispute was self-defense

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Investigators with the Columbia Police Department have determined a fatal shooting that happened on Bratton Street near Gervais Street and Millwood Avenue Thursday morning was done in self-defense.

Chief Randy Scott said Johnell Smith was shot inside the Bratton Street home around 7:30 a.m. during a domestic dispute with a female and her son Andre McCant Moore, Jr.  Scott said Moore shot Smith.  Smith was transported to an area hospital where he later died.  

Scott said investigators have determined that Moore shot Smith in self-defense and will not be charged in the shooting death. Moore is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center for possession of a stolen weapon, which was used in the shooting.
