GASTON, SC (WIS) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for a man who ran away after troopers pulled over the vehicle in which he was a passenger.

Officers began searching for Matthew Ward Tuesday evening in the area of Bitternut Court and Ball Park Road in Gaston after they stopped a car being driven by Robert Canzater for a seatbelt violation. Canzater also ran from the vehicle, but was caught a short time later.

Troopers believe Canzater fled because he was wanted by authorities in both Lexington and Richland counties.  Canzater is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a long list of charges, including having an open container of alcohol in the car, driving under suspension, having an improper tag, failing to stop for blue lights, not being insured, unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of a rifle, and possession with intent to distribute meth..

So far police have not been able locate Ward. Troopers don't know why Ward ran, but said it's possible he is armed and dangerous.

If you any information about where Matthew Ward might be, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
