SUMTER, SC (WIS) - A Sumter woman is being charged with her boyfriend's murder following an altercation Monday night, according to the Sumter Police Department.
Police say they found Walter Barfield lying on the front steps of a home on South Street with a severe cut on the back of his neck. He was later transported to Tuomey Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say Carol Pearson stated to police that she cut Barfield with a knife during an argument. She was arrested and charged with his murder.
Pearson is currently at the Sumter Lee regional Detention Center where she will be held until a bond hearing is scheduled with a circuit court judge.
Meanwhile, the murder remains under investigation.
