Lexington women to play in national tennis finals

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - A ladies' tennis team from Lexington will soon represent nine southern states in a national championship.

They call themselves the Rusty Racquets, a wordplay on the age requirement to join the team. All of the ladies on the team are at least 50 years of age, yet they're rated at 3.0 or better.
That means they're pretty good. So good, they'll be representing the southern section of the USTA in the national finals in October in Indian Hills, California.
Maggie MacDougall is the captain of the Rusty Racquets, and says being a member of the team is as much about friendship as it is competition. "A lot of us still have friendships that will go until we die," she said.
Sylvia DeLoach founded Rusty Racquets back in 1991. Health problems have sidelined her for much of this year, but she's happy with the way her career will wrap up. "I'm excited," she said. "As we get closer to the age we have to give up tennis, I think this is a good way to finish it up."

The ladies play for the title starting October 21.
