Mt. Pleasant police say husband shot wife in possible murder-suicide

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant police are investigating what they believe to be a murder-suicide early Wednesday morning involving a husband and wife.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting and possible suicide within the Longpoint Subdivision around 12:12am Wednesday and found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Based on the initial investigation it is believed that the husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the third such incident in as many weeks in the Carolinas. In late June, former North Charleston Mayor Bobby Kinard shot another man before turning the gun on himself. Kinard's wife said he suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and suspected she was cheating on him.

Last week, a 25-year-old man in Gaston County, North Carolina shot his girlfriend and three children before killing himself. Police say the couple had a violent relationship and the man had another family.
