Cooper to start for Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina coach Ray Tanner plans to go with ace Blake Cooper to start the College World Series' championship round.

The Gamecocks say the senior right-hander will open Game 1 of the best-of-three series with UCLA on Monday night at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb.

Cooper is 12-2 with 2.86 earned-run average and a team-high 129 innings pitched.

He last pitched this past Wednesday, pitching more than five innings in the Gamecocks' 3-2, 12-inning victory over Oklahoma to remain alive at the CWS.

South Carolina then defeated rival Clemson two straight games to advance to the championship series.
