COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Gov. Mark Sanford released a statement as the USC Gamecocks and Clemson Tigers prepare to meet in the semi-finals of the College World Series.
In a news release, Sanford said, "I'd first congratulate both the Gamecocks and Tigers for their ongoing success at the College World Series, and wish them the best in tonight's Palmetto State showdown. I think it's telling that, of the final four college baseball teams remaining in Omaha, two are from South Carolina and I'd applaud Coach Tanner and Coach Leggett, as well as the players on both teams, for their spirited efforts and winning ways both on and off the ball field. The boys and I will be joining tens of thousands of fans across the state tonight in rooting on our favorite team and in the event of a rematch tomorrow night we could well try and make the trip for tomorrow's game. So once again, best of luck to both the Gamecocks and the Tigers, and here's to hoping that a South Carolina team can eventually triumph in Omaha."
