U.S. Soccer advances in World Cup

SOUTH AFRICA (WIS) - The United States soccer team has advanced to the round of 16 in the World Cup on a dramatic goal late in the game.

Landon Donovan scored on a rebound one minute into stoppage time.  It was Donovan's 44th international goal.

Perhaps three minutes from elimination, Jozy Altidore was stopped on a breakaway by goalkeeper Rais Bolihi. Donovan hustled in and kicked in the rebound to win Group C Wednesday.

Shortly after the game, Donovan said, "the ball fell to me and time kind of stopped.  People that know me closest know how hard I've worked for this moment."

The United States team beat Algeria 1-0.
