ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Bond was set Monday for a woman charged in a wreck that killed an infant and sent seven others to the hospital on Interstate 95.

A judge set Tonya Sue Thornton's bond at $50,000 on a charge of driving under the influence involving death.

Troopers say the three cars involved were traveling northbound on I-95 on the Santee Bridge around 5:10a.m. when the Tonya Thornton sideswiped a car being driven by Rosario Carodoso.

Investigators say both vehicles struck a guard rail and a third vehicle being driven by David Royster struck Thornton's car.

An 8-month-old girl in Carodoso's vehicle was not restrained and was thrown into Lake Marion, according to troopers.  She died Sunday afternoon at Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia.  Her name has not been released.

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.  Thornton remains jailed in the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center.
