Midlands child pays visit to DC as Children's Miracle Network rep

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Midlands family is wrapping up a whirlwind, once in a lifetime trip to our nation's capitol.

Five-year-old Gabe Ward and his mom Carolyn are representing South Carolina as our Children's Miracle Network Champion Child.

It's another special stop on this family's already incredible journey.

Gabe is a patient at Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, which is a Children's Miracle Network hospital.

Gabe lost his twin sister, went into foster care and suffers from ADD, ADHD, and bi-polar disorder.

The trip to DC honors his young courage and brings families together who have been down very long roads.

"It's more than you could ever imagine," said Carolyn. "It's wonderful."

While in DC, Gabe toured the Capitol and monuments, Went to a Washington Nationals baseball game and even met President Barack Obama.
