USC junior selected in 2010 MLB draft

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina junior Parker Bangs was selected in the 31st round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

The right-handed pitcher was picked by the Kansas City Royals.  He is the sixth current Gamecock player to be chosen in this year's draft.

He played for second consecutive summer for Fayetteville (NC) in the Coastal Plain League.  Bangs was named to CPL All-Star team and the  finished season with .253 batting average, four HR and 31 RBI.  He also finished 2-3 on the mound with 3.43 ERA

Baseball America rated him the No.5 best prospect out of the CPL this summer.

Bangs' hometown is Laurinburg, NC.
