Myrtle Beach, SC (WMBF) – When he first got the call, Myrtle Beach resident Phill Harper thought it was a joke. But it wasn't, and now he and a friend are going to the World Cup in South Africa.
Harper, who owns an online soccer jersey business and has a huge collection of jerseys himself, entered a video into an ESPN the Magazine contest talking about his love of the game.
Harper doesn't know which games he'll be able see in South Africa. He says if he had to pick, he'd rather see a soccer blue-blood team in action instead of the United States squad.
"I grew up on good soccer, good soccer is overseas, The Premier League," said Harper. "The best soccer is club soccer. Granted, the USA is doing better, but the good soccer is in other countries."
Harper said he is most looking forward to taking in the sights around South Africa and enjoying the World Cup experience.
