Newberry's three sport star gets ready for Furman

NEWBERRY, SC (WIS) - Newberry High School senior Marcus McMorriss is a three sport star for the Bulldogs. He is impressive on the field, but those who know him say he's an even better person than he is an athlete.

Marcus runs track and played basketball and football this season for Newberry. His best sport is football. He's headed to Furman in the fall on a scholarship.

"Furman was one of my top schools in the beginning," said McMorriss. "I went to a couple of camps at Furman. I just enjoy it there."

He will no doubt be able to keep up with the tough academic standards at Furman. Marcus has a weighted GPA of well over 4.6.

"Academics mean a lot," said McMorriss. "Work in the classroom is tough, but I always study and pull through."

Despite the fact that most kids get a big head over their work in school, McMorriss likes to stay grounded to give other kids a good message.

"A lot of kids look up to me and I am ready and willing to be a leader," said McMorriss.
