Former Gov. Hodges endorses Sheheen for Governor

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Former Gov. Jim Hodges announced his support for Sen. Vincent Sheheen in his campaign for governor Monday morning.

"It is my pleasure to endorse Sen. Vincent Sheheen for governor of South Carolina," said Hodges. "Vincent's the best candidate to bring new jobs to South Carolina, the best candidate to reinvigorate public education, and the best candidate to lead the Democratic ticket to victory in November."

In response to Hodges' endorsement, Sen. Sheheen offered the following comments:

"I'm honored to have Gov. Hodges' support," said Sheheen. "As the next governor of South Carolina, I'll restore the commitment to job creation and public education that Gov. Hodges brought to the governor's office."

Sheheen continued, "South Carolina is at a crossroads.  It's time to turn the page on the last eight years and offer a new generation of leadership that will unite the people of our state and bring us together to tackle the challenges we face."

Sheheen has collected more than any other Democratic hopeful. He has over $800,000 in his war chest.  The next closest democrat is Jim Rex with $113,000 in the bank. Robert Ford has reported around $53,000.

Hodges served as Governor of South Carolina from 1998-2002.
