LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - A single vehicle collision early Sunday morning in Lexington County has left one dead and two others in the hospital.
Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving a 1997 Chevy pick-up that had veered off the road on Interstate 77 near the Congaree River.
Lexington County Coroner Harry Harmon says the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control and rolled down an embankment.
A passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were injured and taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
The Highway Patrol says the MAIT team is investigating the collision and toxicology tests are pending.
