COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Medical records were left in the open for anyone to see after someone ditched the paperwork behind the Department of Health and Environmental Control building.

DHEC has requested assistance from SLED regarding allegations that DHEC documents were found in a City of Columbia public recycling bin located behind state agency office buildings on Bull Street.
DHEC has recovered and secured the documents, and turned them over to SLED.
A DHEC spokesman said the documents were discovered Thursday behind DHEC's headquarters on Bull Street.
That spokesman says the documents contained quote "private information."
SLED is conducting a preliminary inquiry to see if further investigation is needed.

We wanted to know how much information was compromised and how many patients were potentially affected, DHEC will only say they're reviewing the matter.
