SUMTER, SC (WIS) - There's finally some good news on the employment front in Sumter County. A customer service business is bringing 400 jobs to the unemployment-stricken county.
The company, Sykes, held a job fair at the Sumter Mall on Thursday.
"We are in the process of ramping up for a new client, so that's creating new opportunity at Sykes," said Sykes Director Stephanie Cetti.
Theresa McFaddin was one of the many people who showed up looking for a job.
"I mean it's really hard, everywhere I've applied they say they're either not hiring, not looking, or they'll call me back," said McFaddin.
Cetti says they have positions for call center agents, support staff and management.
"If you have good computer skills, Internet-savvy, know how to use Windows, search the Internet, that sort of thing, and then as well, strong customer interaction skills," said Cetti.
At the job fair, applicants watched a video about the business and got their questions answered before even filling out an application. Some even had a chance to go ahead and interview, including McFaddin.
"I like helping people, you know I enjoy talking a lot so I get along with people and stuff like that," said McFaddin.
"This is a great time to begin a career with Sykes and we just encourage everyone to come in and apply," said Cetti.
Don't worry if you didn't get to stop by the job fair on Thursday, you can still apply for a job a Sykes. Just stop by their office, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. They're located in the Sumter Mall on Broad Street.
