A Bill A Day: Tinted windows in cars

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - House bill 4184 was pre-filed by Rep. Todd Rutherford in November and sent to the Education and Public Works Committee. The bill reduces the amount drivers can tint the windows of their cars.

State law currently allows window tinting in windows and rear windshields of cars to screen out as much as 27 percent of sunlight. Rep. Rutherford's bill would reduce that number to 20 percent, meaning car windows could not be as dark.

If the bill passes, it will go into effect on January 1, 2011.
