CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston Coast Guard Cutter is on its way to bring aid to Haiti and a group of Charleston airmen are on standby after a 7.0 earthquake hit the impoverished country Tuesday afternoon.
The Charleston Air Force Base has a C17 Globemaster ready to take food, supplies and man power to the country where tens of thousands are feared dead.
Water Missions International, a non profit organization, in West Ashley is also doing their preparations to help Haiti. The group builds water purifiers to bring clean water to countries in need. The systems can treat between 10,000 and 14,000 gallons of water every day.
