Perspective: WIS editorial on Families Helping Families

It's a holiday tradition in the Midlands.  Since 1991, Families Helping Families has been making Christmas merrier for our neighbors in need.  Once again, we're asking for your help.  With double-digit unemployment in our state, there's added urgency in this year's plea.

Last year, our generous viewers donated gifts that filled a vacant store. The economy was already in deep trouble at the time, and we worried that we would not meet our goal. But this community came through in a big way!

This year we face a similar challenge.  And our goal is higher.  We're trying to assist 1600 families and individuals.  If you can help, we need your help.  Please call our Families Helping Families phone bank at 758-1020 on weekdays between 9am and 7:30pm through Wednesday, November 25th.  Our volunteers will be happy to help match you with a needy family or help you make a monetary donation.

Our partners in this cause, the Palmetto Project, local companies, and many volunteers, do a terrific job. Thanks to those who have already stepped up to help your neighbors. That's my perspective.  And remember - this program helps those who would have few Christmas gifts without your generosity.
