H1N1 vaccine clinic dates announced for most KCSD schools

From the Kershaw County School District:

In partnership with DHEC, Kershaw County schools will continue to hold H1N1 vaccine clinics this week.  Students and staff at Camden Middle were vaccinated Monday.  Lugoff-Elgin Middle students and staff will be vaccinated Friday during the school day.

“We have been talking with DHEC officials since the beginning of the school year and are pleased that we’ve been able to offer these free vaccines to our interested students and staff,” said Kershaw County School District Superintendent Frank Morgan.  “This is one piece of our overall efforts to reduce the spread of the H1N1 virus in our community.”

School district officials sent home parental consent forms to all students two weeks ago.  Thirty-seven (37) percent of students districtwide have indicated an interest in receiving the vaccine from DHEC at a school site.

Only students in attendance in the Kershaw County School District who have written parental consent will receive the vaccine.  Elementary students will receive their vaccines with their parents/guardians present.

Vaccine clinics will continue next week.  Shots will be given from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16 at North Central Middle for students and staff from Baron DeKalb Elementary, Bethune Elementary, Midway Elementary and Mt. Pisgah Elementary.  Another vaccine clinic will be held on the same day at the same time at Leslie M. Stover Middle for students and staff from Blaney Elementary and Doby’s Mill Elementary.

Shots will be given from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Lugoff-Elgin Middle for students and staff from Lugoff Elementary and Wateree Elementary.  Another vaccine clinic will be held on the same day from 4 to 8 p.m. at Camden Middle for students and staff from Camden Elementary, Jackson and Pine Tree Hill Elementary.

Students and staff from Leslie M. Stover Middle, North Central High and North Central Middle will be vaccinated on Wednesday, Nov. 18 during the school day.

Students receiving the vaccine during the school day will be monitored by clinic staff for at least 15 minutes before returning to class.

District officials hope to be able to announce dates for vaccine clinics for students and staff from Camden High, CLC and Lugoff-Elgin High soon.  ATEC staff, district office employees, maintenance workers and bus drivers may attend any of the after-school clinics to receive their vaccines.
