WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - At the beginning of the day Friday, Kim Munley had a handful of followers on Twitter and had only sent out a few tweets in the last few months.
By mid-afternoon Friday, the Twitter world was buzzing with @hope2forget30 mentions. Major media outlets began reporting that twitter address as the screen name of Kim Munley, the civilian officer from Carolina Beach who stopped the shooter at Ft. Hood in Texas Thursday afternoon.
Munley's followers on Twitter grew dozens at a time. By the publication of this article, she reached nearly 1500. The mention of Munley on Twitter spanned the world.
"God bless you Sgt Munley. Thank you for being there yesterday and preventing more tragic deaths in spite of your own injuries," tweeted litestudent55.
From Texasps - "Thank you, Kim, You are our Hero. Prayers to you for a speedy recovery. God bless you!"
Country music performer Dierks Bentley mentioned Munley on his Twitter page with the following message: "was able to speak to sgt munley & pass along my prayers for a speedy recovering. she's tough! and couldn't be more nice or humble.real hero"
Bentley noted that he met Munley on July 4th when he played a concert at Ft. Hood. Munley's Twitter pic is of the two at the meet and greet. He said on Twitter that he wanted to have "a meet and greet with her now."
