Train hits log truck in Hampton, driver flown to hospital

HAMPTON, SC (WTOC) - A driver of a log truck has been taken to the hospital after the truck collided with a train Tuesday morning.

It happened around 8am off Highway 278 in Hampton. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a log truck was leaving the Capstone Chip Mill when the driver failed to yield at a stop sign.

A CSX train coming down the tracks couldn't stop in time and slammed into the passenger side of the truck's cab.

The truck driver was ejected through the windshield. The driver was flown to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, but his condition is unknown.

There are no lights or cross arms at this train crossing because it is on a private road.
