COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Three people were killed on Midlands roadways Thursday in two unrelated accidents, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The first accident happened shortly before noon in a three car accident in Orangeburg County.
The SC Highway Patrol says a car was traveling north on Highway 321 near the town of North when the car crossed the center line and struck two other cars heading in the opposite direction. A passenger in the northbound car was killed while the driver and another passenger had to be airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital.
The occupants of the other two cars were not injured, according to the SCHP.
The second accident claimed two lives and happened in Clarendon County near Manning.
The accident happened on Silver Road around 10:30 when the car they were traveling in ran off the right side of the road.
According to the SC Highway Patrol, the car struck a ditch and flipped over.
Both the driver and a passenger were killed in the accident.
The SCHP says the driver was not wearing a seatbelt while the passenger was.
Both accidents are under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
