Perspective: WIS Editorial on blood donation by general manager Donita Todd

Our annual "Count on WIS Blood Drive" for the American Red Cross is coming up Thursday.  And if you weigh at least 110 pounds and can give blood, this would be a great time to help give the gift of life to our neighbors who need it.  You have to be 17 years old, or 16 with a parent's permission.  It only takes about 30 minutes.

The blood drive kicks off at 7a.m. here at WIS, 1111 Bull Street, and runs until 7pm.  At 11 a.m., the Red Cross will also start collecting blood at three other sites: Dutch Square Mall on Bush River Road, Columbia Place on Two Notch Road, and Sumter Mall on Broad Street.  You might get to meet some of our WIS personalities, but you'll definitely get a free t-shirt -- and the satisfaction of knowing you're helping to meet a vital need in our area.

They especially need O-negative, A-negative, and B-negative blood.  This is a slow time of year for the Red Cross, as many people are in between vacations and the start of school.

Our local Red Cross serves 54 hospitals and must have 500 donors each weekday to meet demand. There is no substitute for blood, and volunteer donors are the only source!

That's my perspective.  Please come out and help on Thursday!
