Body found in Myrtle Beach sand dunes

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A body was discovered Sunday morning in sand dunes near 43rd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, but investigators do not suspect foul play.

According to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge, the victim has been identified as Reuben Clayton Harris, 36.

Harris had recently been working different jobs in the Myrtle Beach area, and was originally from Glenn Allen, VA, near Richmond.

According to the coroner's office, the body was found around 6 a.m. by sanitation workers, and investigators believe that the body had been in the area for a couple of days.

A preliminary autopsy done Sunday morning by Edge did not show a cause of death; however, to the relief of tourists staying in the area, no foul play is expected to have been involved.

"It makes me feel more comfortable," said Joel Thaler, who was staying nearby. "But then I still feel weird inside to know they found him in the dunes rather than inside his house or something. Maybe something else went down."

In order to properly determine the cause of death more tests are needed. Officials say this could take from two to six weeks.
