COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - "Dad gets sent over to Iraq and we get robbed. Hm. What a good Christmas."
Those are the feelings of an 11-year-old Midlands boy and his family. While their dad is serving abroad, the family was robbed of not just their Christmas presents, but their only form of communication with their father.
Giselle Corbitt says, "We would sit on the computer for hours every night just talking and we would leave our cameras on at night so we could watch over each other as we slept and now we don't even have that."
She is trying to be strong for her three boys. She used her computer as the only means of communication between her and her fiance, Staff Sergeant Danny Paris, who is deployed to Iraq.
The family's Christmas presents are stolen. "Everything I had wrapped up for the kids at Christmas is gone."
Corbitt says about 12:30 Sunday morning she was waiting for Staff Sergeant Danny Paris to log on the computer. "I just got this real eerie feeling that something wasn't right and I just got really scared."
She says she immediately left her home when she returned to her home noon on Sunday. What she would find was a nightmare. "There was glass all over my kitchen...trash all over in my trashcan without a bag in it and just a total mess...a total mess."
Colby Corbitt, 5, says, "And as soon as I got home again, it was so different. The Christmas tree was took down."
Colby says even the Army comforter on one of his brother's beds was gone. "I was crying and I thought mom put the Christmas presents away, but she told me the presents were gone."
Her fiance, who is overseas, had just recently visited Columbia for the Veteran's Day Parade. He doesn't even know what happened. "I've got four receipts with $1,200 worth of stuff and that's what I have to give my kids for Christmas, 'cause I have nothing else."
