Sunnis criticize executions

(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) January 15, 2007 - Sunni Muslims are reacting with anger to the execution of two of Saddam Hussein's henchmen.

They are particularly outraged to learn that one of them was decapitated.

A government spokesman says all the rules were followed during the execution of Saddam's half-brother and another man.

Saddam's executioners taunted him before he was hanged last month.

A leader of the main Sunni bloc in parliament is demanding to see any video that might have been taken to back up the government's claim. He says he believes the man who was decapitated was mutilated.

And the son-in-law of Saddam's half-brother says the hangings prove that the Shiites just want more bloodshed.

An Egyptian forensics expert tells Al-Jazeera television that decapitations sometimes occur during hangings if the rope used is of the wrong quality or the executioners are inexperienced.
