Libby: No White House plot, no crime in CIA leak

(Washington-AP) November 14, 2006 - Attorneys for former White House aide Lewis Libby say he had no reason to lie to investigators about who leaked the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Columnist Robert Novak revealed her name in a story in 2003. After a long investigation, no one was charged with leaking her identity, but Libby was charged with lying to the FBI and a grand jury about his conversations with reporters.

Earlier this year, former State Department official Richard Armitage admitted to being the source for Novak's column.

Libby's attorneys have filed court documents saying they doubt any real crime has been committed. Libby's perjury trial starts in January.
