(London-AP) May 6, 2006 - In Britain, critics of the country's involvement in Iraq are urging Prime Minister Tony Blair to step down after a helicopter crash in Basra Saturday killed four British soldiers.

The chopper appears to have been brought down by a missile. Jubilant Iraqis rushed to the area to celebrate.

They hurled stones at British troops and set fire to three armored vehicles that rushed to the scene. The confrontation between British troops and Shiite gunmen left five Iraqi civilians dead.

Britain has about 8,000 soldiers in Iraq. And 104 British service personnel have died. That doesn't count those who died in Saturday's crash.

The government has promised to scale down British troops in Iraq but has set no timetable.

In the latest Daily Telegraph poll, 57% of Britons said they were against the war while 33% supported it.
