COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The Columbia Fire Department's first female fire marshal has left the department on an indefinite sick leave, according to Interim Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins.

Carmen Floyd, who remains the subject of a State Law Enforcement Division review as well as a civil conspiracy suit, asked for the leave late Wednesday, Jenkins said.

SLED agents and the 5th Circuit Solicitor's office opened a "review" of Floyd after she ordered a deputy fire marshal to drop several fire citations against Benedict College last fall.

Deputy Fire Marshal Matt Lam filed a lawsuit against Floyd, former CFD Chief Bradley Anderson and Interim Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins in January; accusing the three of civil conspiracy.

Jenkins would not reveal specific reasons for Floyd's sick leave, citing federal privacy laws.

This is not Floyd's first request for extended time off from her duties within the past couple months, according to Jenkins.

In Floyd's absence, Assistant Fire Marshal Carlos Wilder will command the department's Fire Prevention Bureau, according to Jenkins.
