Dutch Fork teacher charged with CDV, still employed

CHAPIN, SC (WIS) - According to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, a teacher was arrested in August and charged after a verbal argument with his wife became physical.

An incident report states the man, William Patch Voelker, was upset due to their pending divorce.  The incident report says his wife found evidence of an extra marital affair on a computer, and put the computer in the trunk of her car at the advice of her lawyer.

William confronted her about the computer, and according to the incident report, she hid the keys on her and would not give them up. The report states William took them by force, as well as her cell phone, and that at one point, William was physically assaulting her in an effort to get the keys.

The report states Deedra asked her daughters to call 911 for help.

William Voelker was charged with criminal domestic violence and taken into custody. A $5,000 surety bond was assigned.

According to Dutch Fork Middle School's website, Voelker is the wrestling coach. The school said Wednesday that Voelker is still employed.

A district spokesperson said Voelker reported the incident to the administration himself. According to their policy, the administration can determine if the accusations or charges would impact the classroom. In this case, the district has decided that it does not impact his position in the classroom.

The spokesperson said the district will let the investigation go through the legal system and re-evaluate the situation after that happens.
