COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - When you think of family bonding activities, robbing a 92-year-old man doesn't normally come to mind.
But that's exactly what deputies say a Midlands father-and-son team did on October 18, and now they're both under arrest.
Sheriff Leon Lott said 20-year-old Joshua Clark, his father, 38-year-old Nathan Stroy, and another suspect approached the 92-year-old at the man's carport in the Woodfield Park community.
Deputies say the trio asked the man if he needed lawn care services, and he declined. Suddenly, one of the men lunged at the victim, held him and grabbed his wallet from his rear pocket, Lott said.
The three men fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Deputies have not said who they believe actually stole the wallet.
Clark was arrested shortly after 2:00pm Wednesday at a home in Irmo, and Lott said Clark implicated his father in the crime. The third man's identity is so far unknown.
Investigators say a woman spoke to the man moments before the robbery, and noticed the man had a sum of cash in his wallet. Lott says that leads deputies to believe she played a part in the robbery, as well.
Lott said this particular crime angers him to know senior citizens are being preyed on and urges anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
