COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - Authorities say a South Carolina man has confessed to killing a North Carolina woman after she argued with him about ending their relationship.
Multiple media outlets reported that during a court hearing Thursday investigators said 29-year-old Theodore Manning IV originally called the shooting an accident, then later said he meant to shoot Nikki McPhatter of Charlotte, NC, on May 6.
A body believed to be McPhatter was found last Friday in the trunk of a burned car in Fairfield County.
Manning waived his right to a bond hearing on a murder charge.
Investigators charged 27-year-old Kendra Goodman with accessory after the fact Thursday. Authorities say she followed Manning to where he burned the body. It wasn't immediately clear if she had a lawyer.
The sheriff's department is expected to release more details about Goodman's arrest during a press conference scheduled for Friday at 11:00am.
On Thursday, a bond hearing was scheduled for Theodore Roosevelt Manning, IV. He waived his appearance and remains in jail.
He was arrested and charged with murder last Friday.
McPhatter worked at the US Airways ticket counter at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and was first reported missing on May 11th when she didn't show up for work.
Friends say McPhatter and Manning were dating at the time, but she planned to end the relationship.
Last week, investigators found a body inside McPhatter's 2003 black Honda in Fairfield County located just outside of Columbia.
Officials suspect the body was that of McPhatter but they are waiting on DNA confirmation from the medical examiner's office.
