ATLANTA, GA (WIS) - We're continuing our look at a Lexington High School student's road to recovery after a debilitating accident.
Mack Hudson is back home and trying to return to a normal life.
Hudson was involved in a paralyzing car accident on February 10th.
Since then, the Lexington high school junior hasn't been home. He's been at the Shepherd Center, recovering in Atlanta.
"Nurses coming in all night and checking on you. Give you medicine to take, tell you what to do and don't do," says Hudson.
Mack says the worst part was being away from family and friends, comparing life in a hospital room to jail.
"Got to sign out whenever you decide to go outside, gotta go through the process of everything," he says.
In case he was lost, welcome home signs of his neighbors paved the way to his house, remodeled especially for Mack.
"This will be my little porch area, that my dad made for me," he says.
And friends got to see a face that's been missing from the community.
"I was really excited to see him today. I went twice to see him in the hospital. I was up there almost everyday when he was in Columbia. It was kinda hard to see him like that, so it was good to see him up and about. And back to his normal self," says Daniel Rummel.
Daniel says Mack has physically changed, but says he is the same guy. Knowing Mack all of his life, he says it's nice to see him in such great spirits.
Now he can't wait for the two to be back in school together.
"All the girls are going to roll with him now," Rummel says.
"Everybody was so sad, now we are so happy that he's made such a good improvement," says Beverly Stephenson.
As Mack tours his almost finished new room and rolls his way around a brand new porch, he has a hard time wiping the smile from his face.
Thankful that his dad changed the house for him, thankful to have things getting back to normal.
"Already got me doing chores," he says.
Mack's room will be finished when he wraps up his rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center this week. The 17-year old says he is looking forward to sleeping in his own bed.
