Comedian Katt Williams taken to hospital in Sumter

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - In a bizarre case coming out of Sumter, a motel worker says world-renowned comedian Katt Williams tried to check into a motel wearing a bathrobe.

The clerk, Marion Donning, thought something was wrong and called police. Donning said she had no idea who he was.

"And when I asked for his ID, he stared to look in his pockets and couldn't find his ID," Donning said.

In the video, you can see Williams trying to check in to the Mt. Vernon Inn at around 8:30am on Friday.

Donning says Williams went outside to a black SUV and brought another gentleman in.

"I told him he would be responsible for him," Donning said. "And at that time the gentleman in the bathrobe said, 'Well I make $20 million year, and you're trying to take responsibility for me?'"

Donning says Williams started to lose his composure. In the video, you can see him squat by the door.

"I just wondered if he was alright," Donning said.

Donning says the two men left the hotel without checking in.

Sumter County deputies say around noon, Williams was at the law office of Garrell Deas about two blocks away from the motel. Deputies say they had a probate court order to pick Williams up and drive him to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

No word yet if Williams is still at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

The Sumter County Sheriff believes Williams was in town visiting a relative in Dalzell, possibly his daughter.

This is the latest episode in a series of peculiar events for Williams. On Nov. 5, he didn't show up for his appearance on the Conan O'Brien show, and he was arrested on weapons charges later that week.

Williams is scheduled to appear at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas on Nov. 20.
