CHAPIN, SC (WIS) - Deshaun Clark would have started his senior year at Chapin High this week.
Deshaun Clark's uncle, Corinthea Stack was in the Lexington County Courtroom at the bond hearing for the man accused of killing Deshaun over the weekend.
"We're a kind, loving family that no longer has a loved one with us," Clark said.
Sixty-two-year-old Francis Reeves is charged with murder.
It started at the Reeves' family lake house Friday night. Investigators say Reeves' son was hosting a party. They say a fight erupted between Reeves' daughter's boyfriend and Deshaun -- possibly over a cell phone. Reeves said he got a call that his daughter got knocked out and suffered a black eye.
In court, Reeves' lawyer said his client went to the house and when he got there a group of about a dozen teenagers grabbed his son. Officers say Reeves fired a handgun and hit Deshaun in the stomach.
Reeves' lawyer, Dick Harpootlian, says it was self-defense.
"This was on his property -- his one child was knocked out, the other was being beat up -- he had a right to get in self-defense," Harpootlian said.
When asked how he felt about Deshaun's death, Reeves said, "I could care less."
Deshaun's uncle talked about that comment after court.
"I hope he had a change of heart about the statement that he made," Clark said.
Deshaun's family says they worry the case will spark more violence. They're holding a community meeting in Chapin on Tuesday hoping to gather more information about the shooting and prevent further violence.
Deshaun's funeral will be held at Chapin Presbyterian Church at 3pm Wednesday.
