USC committee looking for a new president

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees appointed a committee Monday to search for a new school president.

Dr. Andrew Sorensen has said he will retire as president next summer. And people connected to the university have told WIS News 10 that one well known name is already floating around as a possible replacement. Andrew Card is a USC graduate who recently stepped down as President Bush's Chief of Staff.

At a trustees meeting Monday, search committee chairman Miles Loadholt says there are no candidates yet. "No, we've got to go through the process. Nobody's applied and we're not considering anyone at this time."

Trustees say they expect about 80 people to be nominated for the job. Members want to select a new president by the beginning of next summer.
