ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - If you love pecans, we've got good news for you.
The drought isn't hurting this year's crop. In fact, it may even be helping them.
Officials in Georgia say they expect to have triple the number of pecans produced last year.
That comes out to 120 million pounds of pecans.
Why, you ask? Officials say while the drought did hurt crops, pivotal rain arrived in August and September.
The dry weather also caused the crop's disease level to be low.
We checked with the Orangeburg Pecan Company this afternoon, and they say the news is also good here.
They've seen an above-average year in South Carolina.
And since many of their pecans come from Georgia, their good fortune is our good fortune.
But don't be fooled -- the drought is still very serious.
