Two killed in apparent murder-suicide in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The Columbia Police Department is investigating a shooting in the parking lot of the Sears on Garners Ferry Road that left two people dead. They tell WIS News 10 they believe the shooting to have been a murder-suicide.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts told WIS News 10 47-year-old Anita Bovain and 53-year-old Jesse Moody, both Hopkins, died from gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Investigators say Bovain and Moody may have been in a relationship, and are looking into the murder-suicide possibility.

"We've identified the parties involved and what we're doing now is basically working as far as the relationship between the two, what was the relationship between the two, the history of the pattern and what brought it to such a tragic end as it did last night," said Columbia Police Sgt. Florence McCants.

McCants says witnesses saw Moody walk up to the driver's side of Bovain's car and shoot her several times. He shot from the other side of the car as well before walking back to his car and shooting himself. It happened about 9:30pm Saturday.
