GREENWOOD COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The man police say is reponsible for the murder of a Greenwood man is behind bars.

Akiva Lamont Tolbert turned himself into Greenwood County deputies shortly after 4:00am Sunday after police say he shot and killed a man at a local nightclub the night before.

Deputies say Ricky Sherman Williams was shot shortly before 3:00am Saturday at Fat Daddy's, a Greenwood nightclub.

Witnesses told police there was a verbal argument with between Williams and a man known as "Key Man," later identified as Akiva Lamont Tolbert. During the argument, Tolbert allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot Williams once, then fled the scene on foot.

Investigators were told several people began to chase Tolbert, who fired two more rounds into the air and escaped.

Willaims was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died from his wound Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say Tolbert is in jail awaiting a bond hearing this week, and will be charged with murder.
