Lexington County father admits to intoxication when his baby died

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A Lexington County father admits he was drunk and high the night his six-week-old baby fell on a space heater and died.

Jeffrey Alfinito pleaded guilty Thursday to homicide by child abuse. His six-week-old son died from thermal brain injuries in March, 2006, after investigators say the baby fell on a space heater.

In court Thursday morning, Alfinito admitted to drinking beer and smoking pot - then falling asleep on the couch - before the baby rolled onto the heater.

A judge sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
