Lexington County drug bust turns into chase, suspect still loose

LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - A drug investigation ended in a chase through Lexington County early Friday morning, and the wanted man is still on the loose.

Authorities say a drug bust turned into a chase that ended up near the town limits of Gilbert.

The chase lead authorities through Main Street in Gilbert toward Highway 1.

Officials say the man they were chasing was throwing drugs out of a car during the pursuit. As far as they know, all of those drugs have been recovered.

As the man got into the Gilbert town limits, he bailed out of the vehicle.

Authorities were ready to use their K-9's to track him down, but the weather hindered their search.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Rubin Leavy, and is wanted for trafficking cocaine and failing to stop for blue lights.

Officials say they have talked to his father about having the man turn himself in.

You can count on WIS to bring you more details on this as we have them.
