(Moscow-AP) February 28, 2007 - The foreign minister of Russia tells a government newspaper that the US shouldn't use force against Iran.
According to the paper, Sergey Lavrov says Russia is concerned about the "possibility of a military scenario" in the effort to prevent Tehran from becoming a nuclear power.
Lavrov says the Russian government is worried about recent remarks by Vice President Cheney, who said that "all options are on the table" when it comes to dealing with Iran.
Russia is calling for diplomacy, but Lavrov says nuclear talks have stalled because both the US and Iran have taken uncompromising stances on the issue. He says it would be "unforgivable" to pass up the opportunity for negotiations because both parties are unyeilding.
Lavrov is also criticizing US foreign policy. He's quoted as saying that Washington has a "unilateral strategy" toward global affairs that's not reflective of "the behavior of a partner."
