(Charlotte, NC-AP) February 21, 2007 - More legal problems are coming for a teenager who has already been sentenced to at least 12 years in prison for a drunken-driving wreck that killed two people last year.
Brock Franklin now faces wrongful death lawsuits from the parents of the young couple.
The 19-year-old pleaded no contest in December to two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Eddel Rivera, who was 23, and Richard Charles Bryant, who was 22. The couple had planned to marry.
Authorities believe Franklin caused the head-on collision by getting on a highway going the wrong direction.
The lawsuits filed in Mecklenburg Superior Court by families of Rivera and Bryant also accuse three convenience stores of selling alcohol to teenagers. Franklin and his friends were drinking at a party the night of the fatal wreck.
The lawsuit seeks more than $10,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.
