(Fletcher, NC-AP) February 16, 2007 - Traffic is moving again on Interstate 26 in North Carolina after an accident that left two people hurt, eight cars damaged and traffic backed up for at least three miles.
The state Highway Patrol says the series of crashes happened after an earlier accident caused traffic to back up near the Fletcher exit in Henderson County.
An Arden man says his car was in the first collision that touched off the pileup. He says the driver of the sport utility vehicle in front of him swerved out of the way of a rapidly slowing car and that he couldn't.
Ken Floyd says he barely hit the car in front of him, but the car behind him hit him pretty hard. Then he says he heard the sound of two more crashes.
By the time emergency crews arrived, one vehicle was perched almost entirely on top of another and traffic was backing up.
