Romney questioned about abortion

(Anderson-AP) February 9, 2007 - Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney faced questions about abortion Friday morning in Anderson.

Romney spoke and then took questions. He told Debby Buffington that he has always been in favor of life.

Romney says when he was elected governor, he knew he wasn't going to be able to change the law on abortion. But he says every act he's taken as governor has been in favor of life.

The event in Anderson attracted about 100 people. Anderson County Republican Party Chairman Rick Adkins says he thinks Romney will do better than many people think in South Carolina.

Romney will return to South Carolina next week for the formal launch of his presidential campaign.

Romney has the backing of US Senator Jim DeMint. Senator Lindsey Graham is supporting Arizona Senator John McCain.
