More than 100 people killed or found dead Sunday in Iraq

(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) February 4, 2007 - Police say more than 100 people have been killed or found dead in Iraq Sunday, mostly in Baghdad.

They include the bullet-riddled bodies of 42 men found in several parts of the capital, handcuffed and blindfolded. Police say most of them showed signs of torture.

Eight people were killed in a pair of car bombings in Baghdad and seven died in an evening mortar barrage on a Sunni neighborhood in the north of the capital.

Six civilians were killed in a clash between police and gunmen in a mostly Sunni neighborhood in western Baghdad.

In the southern city of Basra, gunmen killed a locally prominent ally of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

An Interior Ministry official says about one-thousand Iraqis have been killed in the past week, including 137 killed Saturday in a massive truck bombing at a Baghdad market.
